Explain to me why taxpayers are paying $10.2M to sequence the maize genome for Monsanto. At the very least, the companies who are raking it in by fucking with the genes of a given species should be forced to pay for a full public domain genome sequence.

Also: they are now working on BT crops without marker genes [sponsored by Novartis]. This could be a good thing, since the markers are usually antibiotic resistant genes (which we would like to control the population of), but it will make it harder to track gene flow. If course, if your corn is covered with Bt cry1A proteins, it's not hard to figure out what's going on.

Have I mentioned that Bt is probably the same species as Anthrax?
