Happy Happy

Lest I be accused of permanent negativity, I'd like to point out this typically superb David Karp article on Fragaria moschata in the new Smithsonian.

Also: John Seabrook's excellent 2002 article on Karp.

From the New Yorker.

No mistakes.

An excellent use of my time, reading the Karp article. I met him at a farm dinner. He's the oddest little man...sort of like a voice-activated animatronic character at Disneyland, who is a little in a trance until someone utters the name of any fruit.

He was completely silent while I was talking about Ruth Reichl, until I mentioned her book, Comfort Me with Apples.

"Did you say APPLES?" he asked, and launched into a segue on them. Pretty funny.

He wears a pith helmet and a safari vest.

Awesome. I wish all of my dinner guests were like that.
